Descaling system for bar and wire rod
Example of a descaler used for the removal of primary scale on billets for bar and wire rod production
In rolling mills producing bars and wire rod, the removal of primary scale on billets requires exchangeable spray rings in order to adjust the spray pattern, especially to varying billet diameters. This is achieved through the use of exchangeable spray cartridges fixed to the descaling box by means of quick-acting couplings. The combination of exchangeable spray rings and entry and exit guides for billet centering guarantees a homogeneous and uniform descaling result also in reversing mills. The setting of low spraying distances enables the impinging amount of water to be reduced while maintaining a constant impact value. This has the positive effect that the temperature drop at the billet edges is reduced, leading to less crack formation during rolling.|

The actual task of the plunger pumps is to generate enough energy to press the complete pumping capacity of water through the nozzles of the spray ring. The above shown spray ring only requires one plunger pump.
